What is BOTOX?
Slowing the early signs of aging on the upper face is simple and painless with BOTOX injectable treatments at Renuvia Medical Center. BOTOX injectable treatments are popular with patients who want to reduce the appearance of minor expression lines. Dr. Arthur Schlyer is pleased to offer BOTOX injectable treatments to men and women in New Port Richey, FL.
By creating a smoother and softer complexion, BOTOX can help patients achieve their desired cosmetic goals. BOTOX is a clean strain of botulinum toxin (type A) that temporarily reduces the movements of muscles in the forehead. The wrinkles made from these constant muscle contractions are referred to as “dynamic.” After a certain age, these dynamic wrinkles become permanent, even when the muscles completely relax. BOTOX injections can dramatically reduce the development of these lines by restricting muscle movements and providing your skin an opportunity to rejuvenate itself without interruption.
BOTOX injections are great for people who wish to smooth the appearance of lines and wrinkles on their face without surgery. Because our facial muscles are constantly shifting expressions, BOTOX is often thought of as a preventive anti-aging treatment, even for younger patients. BOTOX is an effective, noninvasive treatment if you have forehead lines or parallel lines between the brows. It can also help reduce the appearance of lines around the eyes. If you experience more severe and deeper lines, Dr. Schlyer might use a combination of BOTOX and a dermal filler to help achieve your cosmetic goals. Also, if you are older with moderate to severe skin laxity, you may need a facelift. This treatment provides dramatic, long-term results.
Our Injection Technique
At Renuvia Medical Center, we complete BOTOX treatments as an outpatient procedure. During your first visit to our office, we usually perform BOTOX injections right after your consultation with Dr. Schlyer. To determine the location of your injections, Dr. Schlyer will ask you to make several facial expressions using your upper face, such as squinting or frowning. Most often, we administer BOTOX injections in between the brows, on Crow's feet, and across the forehead.
We will start the procedure by cleaning your skin and then administer BOTOX with a fine needle, followed by a cool compress to reduce bruising and discomfort. You can request a numbing cream to make the procedure more comfortable, but generally, it isn't necessary. BOTOX injections typically take about 10 – 15 minutes, and after, you can resume your everyday activities.
What to Expect
After the BOTOX injection, you may resume your normal schedule; however, you should avoid strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours. For the first night, we ask patients to sleep with their head propped up and to avoid touching their face, which could accidentally spread the treatment to other areas. The injected parts of your face may appear swollen, bruised, or red for 2 – 3 days, but you shouldn't have any serious or long-lasting side effects. In most cases, it takes around 5 – 7 days before seeing the full results of BOTOX. Typically, those results last 3 – 4 months. Dr. Schlyer will talk with you about scheduling a follow-up appointment at Renuvia Medical Center to extend your results.
